Permutations: How Bafana Can Qualify For 2026 FIFA WC

Posted on October 11, 2025

Bafana Bafana go into the final 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier – with three teams able to secure top spot and a ticket to the global event.

South Africa host Rwanda in their final Group C game, going in at second place, with 15 points, two behind leaders, Benin and one point in front of third-placed Nigeria – who host the leaders in Uyo.

It’s an unthinkable scenario for Hugo Broos and his troops – who were seemingly coasting to the event hosted by United States of America, Canada and Mexico next year – but thinks turned on it’s head after the Teboho Mokoena suspension saga.

The 2-0 win over Lesotho, in which Mokoena was wrongfully fielded due to having picked up two yellow cards in the group – saw FIFA award Lesotho a 3-0 victory, thus putting the Cheeatah’s on top, via goal difference.

They went on to beat Rwanda on Friday, while South Africa and Zimbabwe played to a goalless draw and the Super Eagles beat Lesotho 2-1 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium

Permutations:

  • If South Africa win, and Nigeria beat Benin (South Africa qualify)
  • If Benin and Nigeria draw, and South Africa beat Rwanda by two goals (South Africa qualify)
  • If Benin beat Nigeria (Benin qualify)
  • If Nigeria beat Benin and South Africa lose to Rwanda (Nigeria qualify)
