Patrick Mayo On Son Khanyisa’s Goal Celebration

Posted on October 9, 2025

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Patrick Mayo has defended his son’s recent goal celebration saying it was about pride of a young man living his dream.

The 27-year-old arrived at Naturena on loan from Algerian side CRB in September. He made his debut in the 1-1 Betway Premiership draw against Marumo Gallants where he also scored the goal that earned Amakhosi the point. After netting the goal Mayo ran to the corner flag with hand gestures that suggested he has arrived.

His father spoke to iDiski Times senior journalist Matshelane Mamabolo in edition 224 of the newspaper where he said that goal was a big deal to his son.

“Not everyone scores in their first game for Chiefs,” Patrick told iDiski Times.

“It’s a big deal. He must enjoy it, but then he must work even harder.”

Meanwhile, the Mayos are among a handful of families who have had fathers and sons play for Chiefs in different generations and when asked how it feels to see his son following in his footsteps at his former side, the 52-year-old said it’s something special.

“I don’t even know how to explain it,” added Patrick.

“It is a blessing. I am counted among the greats who played for Chiefs and now to see my son there too… it is something special.”
