Ouaddou will do well at Orlando Pirates, says ex-Bucs coach

Former Orlando Pirates coach Roger De Sa says the club’s newly-appointed head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has what it takes to succeed.

Ouaddou joined the Buccaneers in June, replacing Jose Riveiro. Under the Spaniards, Pirates win five trophies in three years and reached the CAF Champions League semi-finals last season.

With the club making 11 signings, all eyes are on Ouaddou ahead of this coming season. De Sa feels the Moroccan coach will fit in well with Pirates given he has experience coaching in the continent and the PSL.

Ouaddou faces big challenge at Orlando Pirates

“Look, I don’t think they parted ways. I think Jose’s contract was up after three years, and it’s very unlikely that Pirates renew a contract,” De Sa told Soccer Laduma.

“It’s always just a period… I remember Ruud Krol winning the double or the treble or whatever, and he still didn’t stay.

“I think, you know, the new coach will probably do a good job. I thought he did a fantastic job at the club that he came to (Marumo Gallants), and I just hope he does the same. He’s got some good African experience, and I think that will help,” added De Sa.

Ouaddou will coach his first game for Orlando Pirates on Saturday against Polokwane City in the quarter-finals of the MTN8.

Can the Buccaneers retain the MTN8?
