Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has opened up about the exciting Betway Premiership title race.
Over the past decade, the Brazilians have dominated the domestic league. At this stage of the season in previous years, it would usually have been clear that they were on course to be crowned champions.
They have won the league eight times in a row, and the Buccaneers are now looking to end that dominance, while the Tshwane giants aim to extend it even further.
Currently, the title race remains neck and neck between the two sides, with both teams sitting on 44 points after 19 matches.
The Sea Robbers are top of the table due to their superior goal difference.
Ouaddou says what is happening in the league this season is healthy for South African football, adding that this kind of competition is what fans have been craving compared to the recent campaigns.
Pirates won 2-1 over Polokwane City on the road on Wednesday, with Sundowns downing Golden Arrows with the same scoreline.
“Yes, you know, we can see there is a lot of interest for football,” said Ouaddou.
“It’s nice for football, it’s nice for the PSL, it’s nice for the fans. When a team is leading with 15 points in the middle of the season, which interest do you have to watch games?
“So, I think it’s what the fans want, it’s what football asks. The two teams are fighting and I think it’s good for South African football.”
