Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has pointed out the key areas Mbekezeli Mbokazi must improve as he moves to Chicago Fire next year.
The MLS side announced Mbokazi’s arrival two weeks ago, confirming his four-year contract—plus an option—in a deal believed to be worth $3 million [R53 million].
He is expected to link up with Chicago once the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco wraps up in January.
Ouaddou, who worked with Mbokazi for six months, says the defender should improve his leadership qualities and his communication.
“I think he has a good future, but I feel where he can improve in US is in terms of the leadership, communication in the back four, he must take the lead when we push the line,” said Ouaddou.
“Communication is important when you’re a captain and you play in the pair of two defenders; you need to command and take the lead. So, that’s where we’re expecting him to improve.”
Mbokazi played a total of 39 matches for Pirates, scoring two goals and providing two assists in the process.
