Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou says while the club’s faithful should be disappointed about the St Eloi Lupopo defeat, they must be confident about the future.
The Buccaneers were eliminated from the CAF Champions League after a 5-4 loss on penalties to the DR Congo side in the second preliminary round following a 3-3 aggregate draw.
Pirates fans were hoping they’d make it to the group stages when they won the second leg 3-0 on Saturday, only to lose the tie on penalties.
Ouaddou believes the fighting spirit the team displayed on Saturday should instill much confidence in the ‘Happy People’ for the future.
“When you’re supporting Orlando Pirates and you love the club, so there’s a lot of expectations from the fans,” said Ouaddou.
“They are of course disappointed but at the same time they saw how the players fought since the first minute and how they dealt with the game, the football they showed today [Saturday], I think they can have some trust and confidence for the future of that team.
“Of course, I can understand the disappointment because everyone wanted to go through. We did our best and we were the best team; the best team didn’t go through to group stages.”
