Orlando Pirates veteran will RETIRE if he wins the league

Posted on January 30, 2026

Orlando Pirates veteran midfielder Makhehlene Makhaula has revealed that he might consider retirement if his team wins the league this season.

The Buccaneers have had a good season, winning two trophies this campaign. With 13 matches played, Pirates have dropped from first to third in the Betway Premiership.

Although they have two games in hand, they will need to return to winning ways against Magesi FC this weekend if they are to reclaim top spot.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, the 36-year-old midfielder said the young players have always challenged him to keep going. The Orlando Pirates veteran has just returned to action late last year after a lengthy injury which kept him out for six months.

“I think the young guys always want to challenge me each and every time even during training and then you know when I try to take things easy, they come hard on me always,” Makhaula said.

The experienced midfielder is turning 37 this year but is not considering retirement unless he wins the league with the Buccaneers.

“Only God knows. I’m always praying because my wish is the league. We will see maybe this season it can happen but hopefully,” Makhaula said.

“It will be a dream come true because you go to other teams, they don’t even try to fight for the league or something but with the big teams you must be with the big teams because big teams are always fighting for something,” the Pirates veteran added.
