Orlando Pirates transfer news: Mayele, Basadien, Mofokeng

Orlando Pirates have been prolific this offseason, signing eleven solidified stars, including Oswin Appollis and Tshepang Moremi.

However, two high-profile names have remained out of reach, and it appears the ship has sailed as Fiston Mayele and Fawaaz Basadien near exits elsewhere. The latter is heavily linked with Mamelodi Sundowns and was absent for Stellenbosch’s training session today, further fuelling speculation of a move to Pretoria.

Regarding Mayele, the Pyramids striker is reportedly desperate for an exit, albeit leading his side to CAF Champions League glory – the first time in the club’s history.

“I asked Pyramids officials about the future of Congolese striker Fiston Mayele, and they told me he’s a strong candidate to leave,” Egyptian football journalist Ahmed Shobeir. “The player received a very lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia and is close to departing.”

“Honestly, I was very surprised and asked them how they could agree to let him go when he’s one of the team’s top stars and scorers. They told me the player is determined to leave after receiving the offer from Saudi Arabia and won’t be with the team next season.”

Mofokeng remains a mystery

A thick cloud of uncertainty is hovering of Orlando Pirates regarding the future of Relebohile Mofokeng, who has several suitors vying for his services, including PSV, Al Ahly, and FC Cincinnati.

What’s certain is that Mofokeng’s father, Sechaba, wants his son to leave Orlando Pirates this offseason.

“My biggest wish is to see Rele overseas in 2025/2026. I’m praying every day. I don’t want to see him in the Betway Premiership again this season. I know God will answer my prayers,” Sechaba said.

“[Whether it’s in] Spain, England, Netherlands, France, Denmark, Switzerland — Rele can play. I believe that with all my heart. Take him to Barcelona? He can play. PSG? He can play. Any country. I’ll be happy — but not Saudi Arabia,” he added.

“Not yet. He’s still young. He needs to compete in UEFA competitions. If he goes to Saudi now, he won’t experience that. Yes, he’d be rich — but happiness is more important. You can have all the money in the world, but if you’re not happy, it’s worthless.”

Will Orlando Pirates prosper without Mofokeng?
