Orlando Pirates to return for Bafana man in January

Posted on December 9, 2025

Orlando Pirates have reportedly reignited their interest in a Bafana Bafana and Polokwane City star.

The Buccaneers signed Oswin Appollis from City at the close of last season.

Appollis has arguably been the signing of the season so far. The diminutive winger has four goals and six assists in his opening 22 matches for the club.

Now, Orlando Pirates are reportedly looking to close out a deal for another Polokwane City star.

Orlando Pirates pushing to sign Polokwane City star

Abdeslam Ouaddou’s side have already won the opening two cups on offer for the 2025/26 campaign.

Their exit from the CAF Champions League means their full attention will be on the league title.

Orlando Pirates ended the year at the summit of the Betway Premiership standings, with a game in hand.

But given the quality at Mamelodi Sundowns, Pirates will know very well a grueling second half of the season looms.

And it’s for this reason that the club are pushing to sign Thabang Matuludi from Polokwane City FC.

Orlando Pirates have long been linked with the talented 26-year-old right-back. In fact, a serious injury brought the move to a halt earlier this year.

Matuludi however is fit and firing for City this season. And now, reports suggest the Bucs are working on signing the right-back in January.

“It was initially believed that Orlando Pirates would delay any approach until the end of the season, allowing Matuludi to conclude his campaign with Polokwane City. However, indications are that the recently crowned Carling Knockout champions may look to act sooner, with a January transfer window move now a distinct possibility,” – a Citizen report read.

Matuludi’s numbers in the PSL

Thabang Matuludi has made 57 professional appearances in the PSL for City.

He has five goals and two assists to his name. He also made his debut for Bafana Bafana last month and has made the cut for the upcoming Afcon tournament.

Orlando Pirates will undoubtedly benefit from a player of his quality, should a deal be struck.
