Orlando Pirates to replace Bafana player

Orlando Pirates will head into their much-anticipated clash against Mamelodi Sundowns minus a key defender.

Deano Van Rooyen, recently named in the latest Bafana Bafana squad, will miss the second leg of the MTN8 semifinal after suffering an untimely thigh injury against Stellenbosch on Wednesday.

The former Stellies star was forced off in the first half of that very game, leaving coach Abdeslam Ouaddou with a defensive headache just days before meeting Masandawana.

“I have an idea [of the injury], but we don’t have definitive feedback from the medical department,” Ouaddou told the media.

Confirmed: Kaizer Chiefs’ tactical weakness

“What I can tell you is that he will not be available [to face Sundowns], but I don’t have the full report on what he has because he still has to pass some exams so that we can see the extent of his injury,” the French-Moroccan concluded.

The Orlando Pirates coach could select Kamogelo Sebelebele in the wing-back role, while Tshepho Mashiloane, Bandile Shandu, Thabiso Lebitso, and Siyabonga Ndlozi all stand as possible replacements.
