Orlando Pirates to play Sundowns and Chiefs back-to-back

Posted on January 12, 2026

Orlando Pirates will face rivals Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns in the Betway Premiership next month.

These matches will test their title credentials as they aim to win their first league title in 14 years. The Buccaneers are currently at the top of the Betway Premiership after 12 matches and are favourites to secure their fifth PSL title.

Under the management of Abdeslam Ouaddou, the team has had an impressive first half of the season, winning both the Carling Knockout Cup and the MTN8.

Additionally, before the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) break, Pirates secured the Carling Black Label Cup against All Stars.

With a six-week break ahead, it remains to be seen whether this will disrupt their momentum.

Orlando Pirates v Kaizer Chiefs

The much-anticipated Soweto derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs is set for 28 February at the FNB Stadium.

This will be the first Soweto derby since the Nedbank Cup final, which Chiefs won 2-1 back in May. Before facing Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates will host Mamelodi Sundowns at the Orlando Stadium in a league clash.

The two teams have already met three times this season, with all matches ending in 1-1 draws. In February, the Buccaneers have four matches scheduled, while they only have two in January.

If they can secure at least 15 or 16 points from those matches, they should be in a strong position. However, poor form could allow rivals like Chiefs and Sundowns to close in.

Can Pirates win the league this season?
