Orlando Pirates to go three points clear?

Posted on February 3, 2026

Orlando Pirates will be aiming for maximum points when they face AmaZulu on Tuesday evening, knowing a victory could see them move to the top of the Betway Premiership standings.

While a draw would still be enough to lift the Buccaneers to the summit, it would reduce their advantage over title rivals Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs.

With a game in hand over both teams, three points against Usuthu would place the Sea Robbers three points clear of Sundowns, with an opportunity to extend that cushion further in the coming weeks.

Pirates have another league fixture scheduled next week, meaning six points from their next two matches could open up a six-point lead at the top of the table.

Advantage Orlando Pirates in the Betway Premiership

Although topping the log is not necessarily the club’s immediate priority, building a healthy gap could prove crucial ahead of their looming clash with Sundowns in two weeks’ time.

Head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou will be aware that a significant points advantage could shape his tactical approach when the sides meet at the Orlando Amstel Arena on 18 February.

Victory in that encounter would see the Buccaneers stretch their lead over Masandawana to nine points.

Pirates have not lifted the league title in 14 years, but this season presents a genuine opportunity. With no CAF Champions League commitments and a deep squad at their disposal, the Buccaneers are well positioned to mount a sustained title challenge.

Orlando Pirates travel to Durban to face AmaZulu in a Betway Premiership clash at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Tuesday evening, with kick-off scheduled for 19:30. The match will be broadcast live on SuperSport.

With six points up for grabs, Ouaddou’s charges will want to edge out Usuthu before turning focus on the Nedbank Cup.
