Orlando Pirates Target Richards Bay Striker Yanela Mbuthuma

Orlando Pirates have initiated discussions with Richards Bay FC over a potential move for promising striker Yanela Mbuthuma. The 22-year-old forward only recently committed his future to the Natal Rich Boyz by signing a new five-year contract in May 2024.

For the transfer to materialize, the Buccaneers would need to activate Mbuthuma’s release clause, the exact figure of which remains undisclosed. The young attacker impressed during his debut Premiership season, catching the eye of several top-flight clubs with his performances.

Richards Bay, who narrowly avoided relegation last season, face a tough decision regarding their prized asset. While reluctant to lose Mbuthuma so soon after securing his long-term services, the substantial transfer fee from a release clause activation could provide crucial funds for squad reinforcement.

The move represents Pirates’ latest attempt to bolster their attacking options as they prepare for continental competition next season. Should the deal go through, Mbuthuma would join a growing list of young South African talents making the step up to one of the country’s big three clubs.
