Orlando Pirates star to retire, if…

Orlando Pirates have several experienced players in the twilight of their respective careers. Here’s the latest.

Makhaula could retire if Orlando Pirates lift the title

Speaking to the media, 36-year-old midfield hard man Makhehlene Makhaula has just returned from a lengthy injury layoff. He has expressed his deep desire to win the league before considering retirement.

“I think the young guys always want to challenge me each and every time, even during training, and then you know when I try to take things easy, they come hard on me always,” Makhaula said.

“Only God knows. I’m always praying because my wish is the league. We will see, maybe this season it can happen, but hopefully,” Makhaula said.

“It will be a dream come true because you go to other teams, they don’t even try to fight for the league or something, but with the big team,s you must be with the big teams because big teams are always fighting for something,” he added.

Rasebotja’s return plans for Orlando Pirates

24-year-old Selaelo Rasebotja arrived from the now-defunct SuperSport United. However, injuries and squad competition have limited him to just 11 appearances since his arrival in July 2024.

Speaking to the media at the launch of the 2026 Nedbank Cup, the talented schemer said he was edging closer to a return:

“Right now, I am at a stage where I am slowly being integrated into full training,” Rasebotja responded when asked about his recovery by KickOff.

What’s next for Mofokeng?

Meanwhile, Al-Ettifaq, Maccabi Haifa, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Minnesota United and Russian side FC Akron have all been credited with an interest in the player. Mofokeng was forthright about the possibility of exploring his options. He has 19 goals and 25 assists from 107 Bucs appearances. Meanwhile, playmaker Patrick Maswanganyi has been unpredictable with his output at Pirates, sometimes sizzling but often disappointing. The undoubtedly gifted left-footer has featured nine times in the league out of a possible 12, chipping in with three goals and an assist. With a new signing, Andre de Jong, in the building, his game time might diminish further.
