A newly signed Orlando Pirates star has confirmed receiving offers from North Africa.

After a stunning season for his former side Djoliba FC, Abdoulaye Dine Mariko has revealed that a host of clubs were chasing his signature.

Mariko eventually opted for a move to the mighty Orlando Pirates, rejecting several offers from abroad.

Orlando Pirates made a major statement in the transfer market. This is after they struck a deal to sign Malian Ligue 1 Pro Player of the Season Abdoulaye Dine Mariko from Djoliba AC.

Now, the talented midfielder has revealed that the Buccaneers were not his only option.

“There were several clubs that contacted me from all over the world, like in Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, and Algeria. But I joined Orlando Pirates in South Africa. It’s one of the biggest clubs on the continent,” Mariko told Africa Foot.

“They also showed a lot of interest in me, so I decided to join them. It must also be recognised that it is a professional and very popular championship, and certainly one of the best on the continent.”

Can the Buccaneers win the league?

Do you believe Orlando Pirates have what it takes to dethrone Mamelodi Sundowns? Can they win the Betway Premiership this season?
