Orlando Pirates news: Mokoena, Nigerian star, Mbokazi

Posted on September 16, 2025

Orlando Pirates fans are enjoying themselves once again as they bask in more MTN8 glory, the club’s fourth title on the bounce.

Mbekezeli Mbokazi has been a shining light this term as the stand-in skipper.

Here’s today’s news wrap.

Neo Mokoena, 22, is a talented winger whose pathway to the first team has just opened up. With Mohau Nkota departed for Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia and strong suggestions that Relebohile Mofokeng will follow suit at some stage, Mokoena has his eyes on senior action. He’s signed a three-year deal with the MTN8 champions. Although Pirates have done plenty of business this window, Mokoena will fancy his chances of minutes.

Mbokazi is the real deal at Pirates

19-year-old central defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi is enjoying life at the top level. Captaining Orlando Pirates in the absence of Nkosinathi Sibisi in the last six games across all competitions, Mbokazi has earned another big gong.

“Mbekezeli Mbokazi’s outstanding start to the 2025/26 season has not gone unnoticed, with the hard-tackling centre back being named Player of the Month for August,” Orlando Pirates announced.

Nigerian star leaves Pirates

Nigerian central defender Chimzulam Collins Nwoburuoke will leave the club with several players between him and a starting berth.

“Chimzulam Collins Nwoburuoke has stopped training with Orlando Pirates,” FARPost’s Tshepo Rabothe reported.

“He is on his way to join Durban City.

“At the moment, it’s just small details that need ironing, and the deal will go over the line. He’s a good player who is definitely going to add value to Durban City,” the report added.
