Orlando Pirates news: Mbule, TLB Mbokazi, MTN8, R100m

Orlando Pirates have secured the first trophy of the season after beating Stellenbosch 3-0 in the final of the MTN8.

Tshepang Moremi scored twice in extra time to hand Abdeslam Ouaddou his first trophy with the Buccaneers. Despite a poor start to the 2025/26 season, Pirates appeared to have found another gear and once again look like a team to beat.

Against Stellies, the Buccaneers impressed in the midfield and defence. New signing Sipho Mbule was on song and proved why he was one of the standout signing this transfer period.

‘The Master Chef’ produced a masterclass performance before getting subbed in the second half for Oswin Appollis.

Orlando Pirates look to have found form

In defence, the Bucs defence looked solid under Mbekezeli Mbokazi. The young centre-back known as ‘TLB’, has shown maturity and quality over the few months since making his debut.

Even at national level, the 19-year-old has impressed, earning three caps. He will be instrumental to the team this season and if they are to win more trophies, he needs to remain fit.

How much money can Orlando Pirates make this season?

If the Buccaneers win the CAF Champions League, they will walk away with an impressive $4 million, equivalent to R74.4 million in South African rand. Another cup win and a Betway Premiership top two finish could see them make R100 million.

The Betway Premiership prize money is R20 million, and should Ouaddou’s men win both the CAF CL and the league, they would earn an astonishing R104.4 million and secure a continental treble. Even if they don’t win the league, two cup wins and a Champions League triumph will see them win over R100 million this season.

Orlando Pirates will now turn their focus on the league, Carling Knockout and CAF Champions League preliminary stages.
