Orlando Pirates’ new signing keen to make his mark

Securing a dream move was only the beginning for Kamogelo Sebelebele, and the new Orlando Pirates recruit is eager to push on and make his mark for the Soweto giants.

A confessed Bucs fan, the Thembisa-born winger is one of several new faces in the squad that was assembled ahead of the 2025/26 season.

He made the move from Mpumalanga outfit TS Galaxy, where he had risen through the ranks before making his Betway Premiership debut against a team he admired growing up.

Electric atmosphere

Sebelebele has had weeks to acclimatise to his new surroundings and had the opportunity to soak in the electric atmosphere of Orlando Stadium from the bench in the MTN8 opener against Polokwane City.

Recounting his first few weeks at the club, the 23-year-old shared his delight at donning the famous black and white.

“It has been good,” he said in his first exclusive interview.

“I’m so grateful to be here, and looking forward to helping the team and contributing in trying to win the league, CAF Champions League and many other trophies.”

His move came after an impressive season for the Rockets, which earned him a call-up to South Africa’s COSAFA Cup squad in the offseason. His performances earned him a spot in the competition’s Team of the Tournament, further underlining his consistency.

By then, he had already drawn keen interest from a few suitors with the Buccaneers eventually capturing his services. The versatile player revealed that it was his heart that led him to Soweto.

“Obviously, Orlando Pirates is a big team,” he said. Everyone wants to play for Orlando Pirates. One of the reasons I chose the club is because I grew up supporting Orlando Pirates.”

Unique demands

A step up to one of the continent’s biggest clubs does come with its own unique demands, and Sebelebele is aware that things will not be easy. He revealed that he is looking forward to the challenge that comes with the big change.

“I am looking forward to that challenge,” he said.

“I know it won’t be easy. I have to push and focus on improving and helping the team.”

A big chance awaits Sebelebele, who has his sights set on Orlando Pirates’ next fixture. They face a tricky foe in Sekhukhune United in their Betway Premiership opener at Orlando Stadium. He has emphasised the importance of putting on another good performance in front of the passionate Bucs faithful.

“Every game is tough in this league but obviously, Orlando Pirates is a big team and we can’t afford to lose against any team in the league. They are coming to Orlando so we have to win.”

A debut could be on the cards for Sebelebele in the all-too-important fixture, which gets underway on Saturday at 17:30.
