Orlando Pirates missed out on marquee target

Orlando Pirates were keen to sign a top target from Stellenbosch on Deadline Day, but they missed out on a deal by a matter of seconds.

New Zealand star Andre De Jong is staying with Stellenbosch.

This, despite a last-ditch effort from Pirates to sign the midfielder.

Stellenbosch keep De Jong despite Orlando Pirates interest

Stellenbosch Chief Executive Officer Rob Benadie confirmed ongoing contract talks with New Zealander attacking midfielder Andre De Jong. The 28-year-old has 10 caps for his country.

“No, that deal is not done yet; it might be done in the next few hours,” Benadie told iDiski Times.

“But it’s not done yet, and we’re hoping that he stays with us,” he added.
