Orlando Pirates make history after winning fourth successive MTN8 title

Orlando Pirates claimed their fourth successive MTN8 title after a 3-0 win over Stellenbosch on Saturday evening at the Mbombela Stadium.

The Buccaneers required extra time after the two teams were tied at 0-0 after 90 minutes. Both teams had chances to score within 90 minutes but failed to take their opportunities.

Pirates started the first half of extra time on a high and were rewarded two minutes into extra time after Oswin Appollis produced a sublime pass to Tshepang Moremi. The ex-AmaZulu winger opened the scoring to give the Buccaneers a lead.

Tshegofatso Mabasa made it 2-0 a few minutes later to take the match away from Stellies. Moremi got his brace in the 110th minute to secure the Buccaneers their fourth successive MTN8 title.

Following their win over Stellenbosch, Orlando Pirates have now won their 14th MTN8 title. This is the first trophy Abdeslam Ouaddou has won since he joined the team in June.

Orlando Pirates hero named Man of the Match

“I want to thank my teammates, God and the coaches,” Moremi said after winning Man of the Match.

“I stayed focused and eveything has its time. I managed to help my team win, I don’t have more words, I am just happy,” he said.
