Orlando Pirates legend picks top signing

Orlando Pirates legend Lucky Lekgwathi believes new Bucs signing Sipho Mbule will have a good season.

The 27-year-old signed with the Sea Robbers last month after parting ways with Mamelodi Sundowns. Mbule was part of the team’s pre-season tour to Spain last month.

Lekgwathi, who won eight trophies with Pirates, feels the central midfielder will surprise a lot of people this season.

Orlando Pirates legend backs Mbule

“I think all the players are good signings, but if I were to pick one, I’d go for Sipho Mbule. Why? Because people had written him off,” Lekgwathi told Soccer Laduma.

“He showed and proved that he is still the Sipho we know. Looking at him, I think he is going to have a good season. If he can just know how to conduct himself and be disciplined, because Pirates are not like other teams. It’s a big team,” he added.

“They gave him a chance, and so far he’s proven himself. As legends who welcomed him to the team, we must continue to encourage him to work hard and to stay humble and disciplined. He will do well for the team.”

Orlando Pirates have made 11 signings ahead of the 2025/26 season with Mbule, Tshepang Moremi and Oswin Appollis being the pick of the new players. The Buccaneers open their season against Polokwane City this weekend in the quarter-finals of the MTN8.

Can Mbule impress?
