Orlando Pirates latest rumours: Mabasa, Dlamini, Van Rooyen

Posted on January 7, 2026

This Orlando Pirates transfer rumour wrap looks at three players reportedly not in the club’s long-term plans. One is on the Kaizer Chiefs shopping list.

Would Pirates be foolish to let Mabasa join the Glamour Boys?

Allowing Mabasa to join Kaizer Chiefs would be a risk

Once the most lethal marksman in the country, Tshegofatso Mabasa now plays second and even third fiddle to Evidence Makgopa and Yanela Mbuthuma. This fall down the pecking order also saw his chances of a Bafana Bafana recall go up in flames at an inopportune time. Mabasa’s only made five league appearances all season. Some fans seem happy to say goodbye, while others are concerned that Mabasa’s undoubted class will see him succeed at a club like Kaizer Chiefs.

Van Rooyen has ‘no Orlando Pirates future’ according to a fan

Right-back Deaon Van Rooyen is now firmly installed as second-choice in the right-back position behind Thabiso Lebitso. Van Rooyen struggled with injuries early in the campaign, but has been an unused substitute in the club’s last three matches. He started against Richards Bay in the Carling Knockout semis, but he always gets overlooked for big games in the league. He returned to being an unused sub in the Carling Knockout final win.

Dlamini could follow suit and leave Orlando Pirates

How much longer will 29-year-old midfield maverick Kabelo Dlamini accept a bit-part role for the Sea Robbers? Always reliable and effective when called upon from the bench in several midfield roles, Dlamini hardly starts matches. He might think now is the time to make a move to play more football as he reaches his 30s. A popular operator, the club might need to think long and hard about whether to let him go.
