Orlando Pirates have league action before BIG CAF CL job

Posted on October 19, 2025

Orlando Pirates’ CAF Champions League ambitions are hanging in the balance after a bruising 3-0 defeat to Saint-Eloi Lupopo in the first leg played in Lubumbashi, DRC on Sunday.

It was a day to forget for the Sea Robbers as Abdeslam Ouaddou’s men must now pull off a 4-0 victory in the return leg at Orlando Stadium this weekend.

Before that crucial tie, the Buccaneers will look to regain confidence when they host Polokwane City in the Betway Premiership on Wednesday night at 19:30.

Under their French-Moroccan tactician, Amabhakabhaka have looked the part in the league. Following two opening shock defeats to Sekhukhune United and Polokwane City, Bucs responded with five wins on the trot.

They are currently in third place with six points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, as well as three games in hand.

In the seven league games played, Ouaddou’s side have scored nine goals while only conceding three.

The visitors, Polokwane City, sit ninth on the table after four wins, three draws, and two losses from nine matches. They’ve found the net seven times while conceding five.

The sides are no strangers this season, Orlando Pirates already beat Rise and Shine 2-0 in the MTN8 quarterfinals, thanks to goals from Oswin Appollis and Patrick Maswanganyi at the same venue.

Wednesday’s clash now feels like the perfect stage for the Sea Robbers to respond before Saturday’s big job in the CAF Champions League.
