Orlando Pirates fine-tune squad for Betway Premiership title push

Posted on January 14, 2026

Orlando Pirates have been busy in the ongoing transfer window as they fine-tune their squad ahead of the resumption of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season.

Meanwhile, rivals Kaizer Chiefs have not completed any transfer business as at the time of publishing.

However, this could change if Amakhosi decide to pursue an reportedly outbound Bucs star.

Probably departure

Tshegofatso Mabasa is one of the Orlando Pirates stars facing a probable departure from Mayfair.

He recently had a fall out with Bucs management, which, as reported on The South African, could cost him his Orlando Pirates career.

Mabasa will no doubt want to play more frequently as he strives to make a last-minute bid to make it into the Bafana Bafana squad in time for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada this year.

BYE BYE BUCS

To date Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Sinoxolo Kwayiba and Monnapule Saleng have all left Orlando Pirates.

Mbokazi is set to run out for Major League Soccer outfit, Chicago Fire, while Kwayiba (Chippa United) and Saleng (Mamelodi Sundowns) have both left to join PSL rivals.

In another possible exit from the Soweto giants, Relebohile Mofokeng has openly expressed his plans to leave Orlando Pirates to play abroad.

Offers tabled

The skilful Bucs fan-favourite is not shy of offers with several international offers being tabled for him.

With Mofokeng looking to spread his wings abroad, teams are aware of his circumstances and are ready to swoop.

To date, Mofokeng has drawn interest from several clubs in Europe, the Middle East and the United States.
