Orlando Pirates could win a treble this season

Posted on December 6, 2025

Orlando Pirates could win a treble this season after bagging the Carling Knockout Cup on Saturday evening.

The Buccaneers edged out Marumo Gallants 1-0 in the final to win their second successive trophy of the season. Despite not playing their best football at Peter Mokaba, Pirates managed to score in extra time to win their first Carling KO in 14 years.

Gallants frustrated the Sea Robbers for much of the match but failed to create clear-cut chances to cause an upset. With the win, Pirates have secured R6.6 million and have reminded the country why they are “Cup Kings” of South African football.

Can Orlando Pirates win more cups?

With two trophies in the bag, the Buccaneers can win more this season. So far, they are two points clear in the Betway Premiership and are favourites to claim their first league title in 13 years.

Adeslam Ouaddou has a good team, which has lost just three times in over 20 matches this season. With two trophies won, a treble is on the cards for Orlando Pirates.

The last time the Buccaneers won a treble, they won the MTN8, Telkom Knockout, and the league on the same day in 2012.

With rivals Mamelodi Sundowns competing in the CAF Champions League next year, the Sea Robbers will have an advantage, given they are already eliminated from the competition. They will play fewer matches and also be ahead not only in points but games.

Can the Buccaneers win another historic treble?
