Orlando Pirates coach welcomes talent headache

Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has said what the fans and players love to hear. The Moroccan has stressed that he won’t limit his players’ natural flair and skill.

The Soweto giants have packed their squad with new quality, giving coach Ouaddou plenty to think about.

It’s the kind of problem most coaches wish for and the Orlando Pirates mentor has said he’s happy with the “headache” of picking his starting eleven from a star-studded squad.

“I’m a happy coach. When you have such talented players, of course, you can have a headache at the end of the week to make your starting eleven,” Ouaddou told the media during the Betway Premiership launch.

“But yes, I want to give my players—especially these kinds of players, these talented ones—autonomy. I don’t want to block them in the way they play.

The Orlando Pirates tactician added that while some principles are important, “we don’t have to kill the creativity for these kinds of players. As a coach, it is a crime to do that.”

With 12 new signings joining a strong squad, Ouaddou’s challenge is to balance freedom with team discipline. Fans can expect a Pirates side that values attacking flair and skill this season.
