Orlando Pirates coach finally talks about Mofokeng’s potential exit

Posted on August 22, 2025

Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has responded to rumours linking Relebohile Mofokeng with a move overseas.

The tricky winger has been one of the best PSL players in recent years and was always poised for a move overseas. In preparation for his move, the club signed former Polokwane City winger Oswin Appollis in his place.

So far, Mofokeng has played all four matches for the Sea Robbers but has yet to find a goal this season. The Bafana Bafana has been linked to several teams in Europe and the Middle East in the past few months

According to various reports, Major Soccer League (MSL) outfit Minnesota United are looking to offer Pirates R35 million for Mofokeng, but Ouaddou has refused to entertain the rumours.

“I’m sorry about that question [of Mofokeng], [on Wednesday] I was only focused on the game of Stellenbosch, I didn’t have time to look or read in the media. What I know is, Rele is with us, he did well, it means he is with us, and I hope he [remains] with us,” the former Morocco international told the media.

“I cannot say that I see him in the future in that position [10], as a coach, you have to analyse the profile of the players that you have, analyse the connection between them, what can work, what cannot work.

Will Mofokeng leave Pirates?

“I thought he had a good connection with [Oswin] Appollis and Sebelebele, maybe we can see him again in that role, but he can still play wide; but he’s a profile of a player that we need to give freedom.

“Very technically intelligent, clever, you cannot limit him. He needs freedom,” Ouaddou concluded.

Where should Rele head to?
