Orlando Pirates coach confirms new Mofokeng position

Posted on February 2, 2026

Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has opened up on his new plan for Relebohile Mofokeng.

So far, Mofokeng has predominantly been used out wide on the wing.

However, the Bucs coach believes there’s another position which the youngster can impact the game even more from.

Let’s take a look at the details below.

Orlando Pirates coach explains Mofokeng switch

Ouaddou believes Relebohile Mofokeng has the skills needed to be a playmaker.

The talented winger has silky skills, an eye for a pass and the ability to hit the target from range.

And his coach believes the biggest impact he can make is when he’s playing through the middle.

“When you are training players like that, with such talent, you have to identify their qualities and the position where they can play. We know that he is able to play on the side. With the qualities that he has, he can help us in the middle,” Ouaddou said as quoted by FARPost.

The Bucs coach believes Mofokeng is one step ahead of his opponents.

“I told you that he is somebody who is able to see before receiving the ball in terms of decision-making. He is able to make a decision before receiving the ball.”

Mofokeng’s rise to stardom

Mofokeng has been one of the country’s top performers over the past two seasons.

“It’s more than football. When you have this kind of player in your team, you have to use him well. He has the capacity to scan and to be aware of how many teammates he has around him, how many opponents around him.” Ouaddou added.

With reports suggesting he’s a wanted man abroad, it will be extremely difficult for Orlando Pirates to hold onto their star man beyond the end of the current season.

Mofokeng is expected to travel to this year’s World Cup with Bafana Bafana.
