Orlando Pirates bosses change stance on Relebohile Mofokeng

Posted on October 8, 2025

Relebohile Mofokeng is one of Orlando Pirates’ most important players.

In fact, the youngster has already made over 100 appearances for the club! Imagine that, at just the age of 20, Mofokeng is already a centurion at the club!

The club’s dependency on him however is taking a toll on the youngster, forcing the club into a major change of stance.

Orlando Pirates not rushing Mofokeng

Relebohile Mofokeng has struggled to get going this season and much of it can be contributed towards injury.

The talented winger is a key player for both Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana. Needless to say, when he’s not available for selection, both teams suffer greatly.

And while his absence may be felt, Orlando Pirates are now prepared to look beyond it for the greater good of the situation.

If Mofokeng is rushed back from injury, his long-term career may very well be impacted.

And it’s for this exact reason that the Buccaneers management have reportedly decided to give Mofokeng some breathing space and allow him to recover fully without being rushed back.

“As things stand, Pirates are monitoring the situation closely. They’re prioritising Mofokeng’s long-term fitness over short-term gains,” a Soccer Laduma report read.

“According to sources close to the club, there is no sense of alarm within the Orlando Pirates camp. The technical team and medical staff are understood to be taking a cautious approach, ensuring that Mofokeng’s recovery is managed properly.”

Rele’s numbers for the Buccaneers

Since making his debut for Orlando Pirates, Relebohile Mofokeng has been a standout performer.

The 20-year-old has already made 101 appearances for the Buccaneers. He scored 18 goals for the club, while assisting 23 more. Mofokeng is expected to return for the club after the international break.
