Orlando Pirates’ January transfer window has gotten off to a flying start.
The mighty Buccaneers have announced a new attacking midfielder/striker in New Zealand’s Andre de Jong from Stellenbosch FC.

Following a few months of chasing, the 29-year-old forward will wear the famous black and white after an earlier attempt in September that fell short.
De Jong arrives after three goals and one assist in 22 matches for Stellies in the first half of the current season.
Last season, he delivered eight goals and five assists in 47 appearances across all competitions. Beyond the stats, De Jong is valued for his intelligence, selflessness, and ability to create space and balance in attack.
“Orlando Pirates is pleased to announce the signing of Andre de Jong. Welcome, Andre,” the Sea Robbers said on social media.
EXPERIENCE AND NEW DIMENSION
De Jong’s career has spanned New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa, where he has played for AmaZulu, Royal AM, and now Stellenbosch FC. Overall, he has recorded 69 goals and 37 assists in 260 senior matches.
At Orlando Pirates, he faces competition for the coveted number 10 role from Sipho Mbule, Patrick Maswanganyi, Kabelo Dlamini, and occasionally Relebohile Mofokeng.
His direct style, movement, and tireless work rate promise to offer Orlando Pirates a fresh attacking dimension as the team heads into the decisive phase of the season.
Orlando Pirates have made a solid start to the 2025/26 season. They sit top of the Betway Premiership after 12 games, with 28 points from nine wins, one draw, and two losses, while also having a game in hand.
Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou’s team have scored 18 goals and conceded just five, giving them a +13 goal difference.
Their recent six-game winning run has put them in a strong position in the title race, ahead of rivals Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Sea Robbers have also already lifted silverware this season, winning both the MTN8 and the Carling Knockout Cup.
