Official: Mourinho Lands New Club

Posted on September 19, 2025

Former Manchester United and Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has landed a new club, just three weeks after he was sacked by Fenerbahce.

Mourinho, 62, has been one of the most successful and outspoken managers of our generation. He’s lifted 26 trophies during stints at Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Manchester United and AS Roma – including two UEFA Champions Leagues.

His last stint was with Fenerbahce in Turkey, where he finished runners-up behind rivals Galatasaray in the Super Lig, but had started the 2025/26 season in charge. However, after being knocked out of the UEFA Champions League by Benfica, the Turkish giants opted to sack the Portuguese.

In an interesting twist, Benfica have now appointed Mourinho after sacking Bruno Lage following a shock 3-2 home defeat to Qarabag on matchday one of the Champions League phase.

Today, Mourinho was unveiled as new head coach, marking his first return to Portuguese football since lifting six trophies with Porto between 2002 and 2004.

“José Mourinho is the new coach of the Sport Lisboa e Benfica professional football team,” the club stated.

“Sport Lisboa e Benfica – Futebol, SAD informs that it has reached an agreement with coach José Mário dos Santos Mourinho Félix to sign a sports employment contract to be valid until the end of the 2026/27 sports season.”
