Official: Folz Lands New Job With African Giants

Posted on July 24, 2025

Former Mamelodi Sundowns assistant coach Romain Folz has been unveiled as new head coach of Tanzanian giants Young Africans Sports Club.

Folz, 35, is returning to CAF Champions League football with a sensational move to the East African giants, who just secured a clean sweep of domestic silverware in the 2024/25 season.

This publication understands Yanga President Hersi Ally Said received a glowing endorsement from FIFA’s Chief of Global Football Development Arsène Wenger during their time together at the recent FIFA Club World Cup.

Folz will officially succeed Miloud Hamdi – who has made the move to Egyptian Premier League club Ismaily.

The 35-year-old has a strong history of coaching on the continent, with SA football fans likely to remember him from his stints at Marumo Gallants and AmaZulu, while he also assisted Manqoba Mngqithi at Sundowns.

Most recently, Folz was working as Sporting Director at Algerian side Olympique Akbou.
