Official: Durban City Announce Shock Hunt Decision

Posted on December 2, 2025

Durban City and head coach Gavin Hunt have officially parted ways by mutual agreement just five months into his tenure.

The former SuperSport United mentor took over the reins at the Durban-based Betway Premiership outfit from Simo Dladla after their promotion to topflight football at the beginning of the current campaign.

It seemed as though Hunt was steadying the ship which has seen them pick up five wins, four draws with five losses from their opening 15 league matches, and sitting in eighth spot, but Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Orlando Pirates looks to have sealed the unfortunate deal for the four-time PSL-winning coach.

City announced on Monday afternoon they had mutually ended their relationship with Hunt.

“Durban City Football Club can confirm that the Club and Head Coach Gavin Hunt have parted ways by mutual agreement, effective immediately,” the club stated.

“The decision follows discussions between the Club’s Board of Directors and Hunt, concluding a thorough review of the team’s objectives and trajectory.”

Chairman, Farook Kadodia said: “This was a decision reached amicably in the best interests of the Club. We thank Gavin for his dedication and service during his time with us and wish him every success in the next chapter of his career.”

“The Board believes a new direction is necessary to achieve our performance goals.”

Durban City also confirmed that assistant Coach Pitso Dlada will guide the team for its upcoming match against Orbit College on Wednesday.
