Nwabali On Eagles Chances At 2025 AFCON

Posted on November 13, 2025

Nigeria first choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has tipped the Super Eagles to have a successful 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign in Morocco.

The Super Eagles finished as runners-up at the last edition in Ivory Coast where Nwabali was one of the breakout stars in the green and white.

The Chippa United captain told the media at a CAF event in Johannesburg that African football has improved a lot in recent years and there are no guarantees for the so-called power houses. In as much as he doesn’t feel the group is the toughest one, he knows Nigeria like all the countries will have to fight.

“I always say African football has developed a lot,” said Nwabali.

“Every country has developed their football. I feel like we are still going to fight in the group there is no guarantee that we are Nigeria, and we are going to top the group and win our games. But if it comes to winning our games, we can win our games. I won’t say it’s a tough group for us I won’t say it’s a big group for us. I feel like no country is a smaller country in football.”

The 29-year-old conceded the AFCON is a big one for them as they want to redeem themselves as being number two didn’t sit well with a lot of football lovers in his country.

“It’s a really big one for us,” added Nwabali.

“It’s a really big one for us going into another AFCON after the final last year. It’s not a very nice feeling for us and Nigeria as a whole and a lot of people in Nigeria who look up to soccer who know football. It was a really, really bad moment for us but we take it. I feel like the upcoming AFCON Nigeria is probably going to do well.”

Nigeria have been drawn in Group C with Tanzania, Tunisia and Uganda for next month’s showpiece.
