Former PSL all-time top goal scorer Siyabonga Nomvethe has expressed his delight at Peter Shalulile after the latter broke his long-standing goal scoring record.
The Mamelodi Sundowns striker equalled Nomvethe’s 129 goal record against Magesi FC two weeks ago and also surpassed the former Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs forward to sit at the throne currently with 130 goals.
‘Bhele’ spoke to iDiski Times senior writer Matshelane Mamabolo in edition 220 of the newspaper where he sang Shalulile praises about his hunger to always challenge himself and that the Namibian deserved to break the record.
“We all know that records can be broken, especially if a player continues to play,” Nomvethe told iDiski Times.
“He can break them. I am so happy for him because he’s been scoring regularly and doing well as a striker. So why not get the record? He is here to do the business. All I can say is that the boy is a hard worker. He proved it here in South Africa; he showed that he wanted to be the best player, and that has happened.
“To be the top scorer in the PSL, he deserves it. Of course, I am disappointed by the South African players because they are the ones who should have taken this record over, but it is now a player from the outside who did it.”
