Nkota Makes Bold Claim After WC Draw

Posted on December 5, 2025

Former Orlando Pirates winger Mohau Nkota has confidently stated he wants to score the first goal of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after Bafana Bafana were drawn in Group A.

Bafana will face co-hosts Mexico in a replay of the 2010 World Cup opener on 11 June 2026 – exactly 16 years after the two sides met each other for the opener in South Africa.

With Korea Republic and the winner of the European playoffs between Denmark vs North Macedonia and Czech Republic vs Ireland (the two winners will play for a spot at the World Cup) also in Group A, Nkota expressed his excitement after the draw.

“I won’t say it’s easy teams, they’re all best teams,” he stated on SuperSport TV.

“For us it’s to just go and prove ourselves, raise our hands up and we will do better in the games.”

Nkota then also put a very ambitious personal target on record.

“For me, I just go there to score,” he added.

“I want to score the first goals of the FIFA World Cup.”

The full fixture list of the 2026 World Cup will be released on Saturday.
