FCSB and Bafana Bafana defender Siyabonga Ngezana is said to have refused to undergo surgery after suffering a meniscus injury and may miss the rest of the season.
The 28-year-old last played for FCSB in January in the Europa League clash against Turkish giants Fenerbahçe; since then, he has been sidelined.
Reports from Romania are that Ngezana is on the verge of missing the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup warm-up matches for Bafana Bafana against Panama and might not to play for the remainder of the season for the Red and Blue.
The former Kaizer Chiefs academy product most recently formed part of the 2025 Bafana squad at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco as they bowed out in the last 16.
Reports state that Ngezana refused to undergo surgery, fearing that he might not recover in time for the FIFA World Cup, and the club seems to be supporting his decision.
The FCSB president of the administrative board Mihai Stoica explained that they cannot force any player to undergo surgery, according to Fanatik.
“We cannot force a footballer to accept an intervention if he believes he should not accept it.
“We cannot do something like that; we have no way. What do we do, tie him to the bed? Stoica recently said about Ngezana, according to Fanatik.
It remains to be seen if Ngezana will stick to his decision or eventually opt for the surgery route in time to recover for the 2026/27 campaign.
Their next match in the Romanian SuperLiga will see them host FC Universitatea Cluj at the National Arena on Saturday, 7 March.
