Next Khune? Kaizer Chiefs travel with 18-year-old keeper

Posted on February 12, 2026

Kaizer Chiefs’ CAF Confederation Cup finally gets decided on Sunday, 15 February at 18:00 at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium in Ismailia, Egypt.

Amakhosi announced their 23-man travelling squad, where the 18-year-old Takalani Mazhamba was one of the players allocated a flight ticket.

WHO IS KAIZER CHIEFS GOALKEEPER TAKALAZI MAZHAMBA?

Takalani Mazhamba is the club’s newest and brightest young prospect between the posts. The teenage goalkeeper hails from Ha-Rabal in Limpopo.

He first caught the eye of many supporters when he was spotted training with the senior team at the Moses Mabhida Stadium ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup clash against ZESCO United.

Mazhamba’s journey began in the Vhembe District, where his natural shot-stopping ability and composure quickly set him apart.

His performances earned him a place in the Kaizer Chiefs development system, where he continued to grow in confidence and maturity.

PROVEN QUALITY IN THE DSTV DISKI CHALLENGE

He rose to wider prominence during the 2024/25 DStv Diski Challenge season. Which he did so by playing a key role as the Amakhosi reserves lifted the league title.

His consistency and leadership were recognised when he was named the 2024/25 Diski Challenge Goalkeeper of the Season.

On the international stage, Mazhamba added to his growing reputation by helping South Africa win the 2025 U20 AFCON title. His return to Ha-Rabal was marked by a hero’s welcome.

Following his participation at the U20 World Cup in Chile in October, Mazhamba was formally integrated into the Kaizer Chiefs first-team setup for the 2025/26 campaign, where he has been working closely with senior goalkeeper Brandon Petersen as he continues his development.
