New Kaizer Chiefs signing fills boots of experienced midfielder

Posted on January 23, 2026

Kaizer Chiefs do not seem to be missing their top defensive midfielder, Sibongiseni Mthethwa.

The player, affectionately known as “The Ox,” was injured late last year after a strong start to the season, during which he made several appearances across all competitions and was undoubtedly one of Amakhosi’s best players.

In the recent match against Golden Arrows, Mthethwa was not included on the bench, indicating that he has not yet fully recovered.

Meanwhile, new signing Siphesihle Ndlovu was given a rare starting opportunity against Golden Arrows and made a noticeable impact.

The former Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United player performed solidly, preventing Arrows from scoring and making crucial interceptions.

Ndlovu is expected to be a guaranteed starter for Kaizer Chiefs this weekend against Zesco United. The Glamour Boys need a victory to bolster their chances of progressing to the knockout stages of the competition. Additionally, the signing of Lebogang Maboe has strengthened the midfield, allowing Ndlovu to thrive.

What does the future hold for Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Mthethwa?

He will have to bide his time before returning to the pitch. Although he has not been utilised effectively for the past two seasons, he was revitalised under the coaching of Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youseff, and his talent has started to shine through.

The coaches have confidence in him, and once he fully recovers, he is expected to receive more playing time.

With his contract nearing its end, Mthethwa certainly has an opportunity to prove himself and secure a new deal. The midfielder has done a lot for Kaizer Chiefs this campaign, to be offered a new deal.

Should Ox be at Naturena next season?
