Munetsi – What Helped Us Against Bafana

Posted on October 11, 2025

Zimbabwe midfielder Marshall Munetsi has explained what worked for his side when they held Bafana Bafana to a draw.

The FIFA World Cup qualifier between the Warriors and Bafana ended in a goalless 0-0 draw at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday evening.

This result dampened South Africa’s hopes of qualifying for the global showpiece, which will be held in the USA, Mexico, and Canada next year.

Munetsi says having players, including himself, who have played or are currently playing in the South African league helped them know how to contain Hugo Broos’ troops.

“It did play a part because we know the qualities of players that we are facing,” said Munetsi in the press conference.

“It’s like in the dying minutes when we saw Teboho dropping a little bit in the midfield when they were crossing the ball, you know he’s going to try and shoot.

“So, it does really help when you play against them [in the league]. Washington [Arubi] and Divine [Lunga] play here, and Khama [Billiat] and Knowledge [Musona] have also played here in South Africa.

“And also playing in front of a packed stadium, I think it’s what is more important for us.”
