Kaizer Chiefs legend Fabian McCarthy has urged the current crop of Amakhosi players to work really hard to finish in the top half as the MTN8 tournament misses them and the fans miss watching the team in the competition.
Chiefs have endured a challenging decade where they have struggled to win silverware and only have the Nedbank Cup from last season to show for. The side has also finished outside the top eight in the last two seasons.
McCarthy, who is part of the MTN8 legends this season, told iDiski Times writer Lethabo Kganyago in edition 220 of the newspaper that he has been impressed with how Chiefs started the current campaign where they are yet to concede and lose.
The Chiefs legend also said the fans deserve to see Chiefs back in the competition.
“You see, I’m even getting goosebumps,” said McCarthy to iDiski Times.
“Chiefs are missing out, the competition MTN8 is missing Chiefs. For me, it’s the fans of Amakhosi that I’m feeling that are missing out. You’ve seen them at midweek games where you can easily get 10,000 plus, irrespective of where in the country they play. So, I’m feeling it for the fans.
“But I’m saying to the current crop of Chiefs players, we want to see you next season in the MTN8. I’m not going to talk about the first few games, but there’s a change. There’s a lot of positive that’s happening in the Chiefs camp; things are falling into place now.
“I wish them all the best for the season. Like you said, Chiefs are missing out, and the competition misses Chiefs, but I’m feeling more for the fans of Amakhosi, because, you know, when they come out, they go all out.”
