CAF president Dr. Patrice Motsepe has announced a substantial increase in the prize money for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, set to be hosted in Morocco.
The prestigious continental tournament is scheduled to run from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026.
The winning team will take home an impressive $10 million [R167 million], up from the previous $7 million [R117 million].
“The prize money was less than $5 million and we took it to $7 million, now if you win it, you’ll get $10 million,” said Motsepe .
“And there’s a key objective as we move forward. We will continue to increase the prize money for the most important competition in Africa.”
Motsepe also revealed that there will be additional significant increases in the prize money for both the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.
The two South African clubs competing in these tournaments are Mamelodi Sundowns in the Champions League and Stellenbosch FC in the Confederation Cup.
“We’ve also taken decisions to significantly increase the Champions League and the Confederation Cup, but we’re not going to announce them today,” Motsepe added.
“I wanted to announce them, but you know, I have to listen to the smart people around me.”
