Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr has admitted that the way the side lost the Soweto derby last week was embarrassing and everyone at the club needs to take accountability.
Amakhosi headed into the encounter on the back of back-to-back losses in the league and Cup respectively and were hammered 3-0 by the Buccaneers who retained top spot on the Betway Premiership log, while Chiefs’ league title race ambitions were dealt a blow especially with the subsequent defeat to Richards Bay in the next game.
Chiefs currently occupy sixth place on the standings with 30 points in 18 outings, 14 points from the pack leaders at the top.
Speaking to Robert Marawa on MSW947 on Friday, Motaung said it was embarrassing not only to lose to Pirates but also the manner in which they went down.
“The derby against Orlando Pirates think there we have to fully take responsibility,” said Motaung Jr.
“I mean one, you don’t lose to your arch-rivals, two, you don’t lose in that manner and that’s a fact.
“We’ve had some deep soul-searching conversations and sit downs with the players, with the coaches, with ourselves, with the staff in general.
“We embarrassed ourselves on that day, at our home, in front of hundreds of thousands and also millions at home.
“It’s a fact and I think one of our club legends put it correctly. We were on the wrong side of history and that’s what it was.
“I have never seen us that flat, I have never seen our approach that way. It was something that we understand exactly how the supporters feel.
“We let ourselves down, we let the country down. It was an embarrassing display.”
