Motaung Jr confident ahead of CAF clash

Posted on November 21, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs sporting director, Kaizer Motaung Jr, believes Amakhosi pose a threat in their CAF Confederation Cup group.

The Soweto giants have been drawn in the so-called ‘group of death’ containing two top Egyptian opponents, Al Masry and Zamalek, as well as Zambian side, Zesco United. Amakhosi reached the group stages by edging out AS Simba 3-1 in the second preliminary round earlier this month.

On Sunday, Chiefs face Al Masry at the Suez Stadium in Egypt and Motaung Jr feels this is where the club belongs.

“I’m very excited. This is the African stage. It’s where we want to be,” he said on www.kaizerchiefs.com.

Motaung Jr expecting a tough test for Chiefs in Egypt

Kazier Chiefs have been in good form, winning their last two league matches before the FIFA International break.

“We’re expecting a tough test in Egypt, which is well known for its passion for football.” Motaung Jr added.

“Once we knew the draw and the destinations, we had to prepare thoroughly and, coming from the FIFA International break which we have used wisely, we are optimistic of giving our fans a good performance,” he said.

Following Nasreddine Nabi’s departure as head coach, Chiefs have promoted Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef, whom Motaung Jr believes they have done extensive research on their CAF opponents.

“The technical staff have put the players through their paces. Our opposition have been thoroughly researched and analysed, so there is a positive feeling within the camp regarding the task at hand.”

Motaung Jr feels Chiefs are the team to beat in their group and will look to get maximum points from all the matches they play in the group stages.

“Everyone in the group is playing to win and these are two very important games for us against tough opponents right at the start.

“But we believe we pose a significant threat ourselves and we are going out to get maximum points.”
