Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jnr has slammed reports suggesting midfield duo Mduduzi Shabalala and Mfundo Vilakazi were dropped over alleged discipline issues at the club.
The academy products were notable absentees from the Soweto Derby squad, where in the build-up to the game, there were reports surfacing on social media over the club disciplining both players for alleged off the field issues.
That was quickly denied in the post-match press conference by head coach Cedric Kaze and reiterated by agent Mike Makaab – with an injury for Vilakazi and Shabalala said to have been left out for tactical reasons in the 3-0 loss to Orlando Pirates.
“I saw some rumours of Mfundo Vilakazi and Mduduzi Shabalala was left out of the matchday squad because of ill discipline, that was extremely disappointing to hear, it was a lie and fabricated, totally dishonest,” he said on Kaizer Chiefs Radio.
Shabalala returned to the Chiefs squad against Richards Bay mid-week, as Chiefs’ slump continued, with a fifth defeat in six games across all competitions.
“Mfundo has been injured, was not able to train, Mdu we’ve had no disciplinary issues,” he continued.
“These young boys do so much for this team, they play an instrumental role in us lifting the trophy we did, under immense pressure, as young talented players.
“They give everything for this club and for flat out lies to be said about them, that for me is where I draw the line and we have issues.
“That’s totally unacceptable, none of them were dropped for disciplinary issues – that never happened.”
