Motaung explains how and why Kaizer Chiefs backed Nabi

Kaizer Chiefs’ Marketing and Commercial Director, Jessica Motaung, has explained how the club has backed their head coach, Nasreddine Nabi.

The 60-year-old Tunisian mentor did not have the greatest of seasons during the 2024/25 which saw his side finish ninth in the league. He, however, managed to win the club its first trophy in a decade.

Motaung said the management was backing Nabi by giving him the tools he needed.

“The team is committed to making sure that we have the best players, whatever coach we have,” said Motaung.

“We are here to build a team that’s going to last for Kaizer Chiefs. Obviously, the coach is here to do his job. We’re giving him the tools to do the job, and we expect him to deliver.”

Motaung on why supporter turnout has improved this season. Against Mamelodi Sundowns, about 70 000 tickets were sold, which is impressive for a midweek clash..

“I think it speaks to what the brand is about,” added Motaung.

“Definitely speaks to what the brand is about obviously, winning adds to it and it was great to see the stadium filled at 70,000 capacity. In fact, we had to stop selling tickets, so we were in a full house on a Wednesday night. But we’ve seen it with the team filling the stadium, playing against Sundowns, playing against [Orlando] Pirates and other teams.

“But certainly, the mood is high, and supporters are really voting with their feet and coming into the stadium and filling the stadium.”

Kaizer Chiefs are in action on 17 September in a league match against log leaders Sekhukhune United. Amakhosi have made 10 signings for the new season and look like a team to beat.
