Monyane finds fresh air at Chiefs

Former Orlando Pirates defender Thabiso Monyane says he has been embracing a new culture since joining Kaizer Chiefs last month.

The 25-year-old was one of the players released by the Buccaneers last month. Since joining Chiefs, Monyane has been hitting the ground hard during pre-season. He was part of the Amakhosi team which toured the Netherlands for their pre-season training.

Following a 2-1 loss to FC Twente in their last match in the Netherlands, the ex-Pirates star said they conceded goals in the critical phase of the match.

“We conceded twice in critical phases of the game,” he said. “That was tough. We worked so hard to get back into the game and then we conceded a goal so late.

“However, we learn from this. I always say, ‘you never lose, you always learn’.” he was quoted on Chiefs website.

Monyane revealed he received a warm welcome from the Kaizer Chiefs family upon leaving Pirates.

“I have been received well by the technical team, the players and the staff, arriving from the other side of Soweto,” the right-back says about his reception as a Glamour Boy.

“It has been a breath of fresh air and I am embracing a new culture.”

Kaizer Chiefs have played five friendly matches during their pre-season camp in the Netherlands and Monyane feels the team has made massive progress in the two weeks.

“I feel that there has been massive progression since we played our first game against Vitesse last week Tuesday,” the 25-year-old reflects. “Our time in the Netherlands, facing really good opponents, has been a top-top experience,” Monyane said.

Will Monyane be a regular?
