Mokwena On Returning To Loftus To Face Sundowns

Posted on February 14, 2026

MC Alger head coach Rulani Mokwena says destiny is in their own hands but knows it’s a challenging feat to overcome Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday afternoon.

Mokwena now in charge of MCA, remains a firm fan favourite at Sundowns, where he won two league titles, Nedbank Cup, Telkom Knockout and the African Football League.

While he’s since coached Wydad prior to the move to Algeria, it will be the first time returning to Tshwane in his coaching career on the away side of the dugout since his exit.

A win for either side would secure a quarter-final qualification in the CAF Champions League, making for a mouth-watering Valentines Day showdown.

“Interesting, it’s been a great campaign so far for both teams, interesting results and to arrive in the match-day six, is something I am a bit unfamiliar with, usually it’s to navigate first or second.

“Fascinating journey with a new team, we’ve earned the right to come into the last game with possibility to qualify for the knockout, must give credit to the group of players after coming back from no wins from three opening games.

“But now we control our own destiny, we know it’s a team who was in the final last season, a very good side, an away match, but we believe in ourselves, our group, our work, it will be a difficult test but we have a great team with great spirit and good mentality and we look forward to the game tomorrow.”

The game kicks off on Saturday afternoon at 15h00 in the Tshwane.
