Modiba – Why Sundowns Squad Honoured Shalulile

Posted on November 24, 2025

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Aubrey Modiba has praised the team spirit of the squad in reference to the squad celebrating in honour of Peter Shalulile.

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) all-time record goalscorer was not in the squad in their 3-1 win over St Eloi Lupopo with his long-term future constantly in question at the club.

However, Marcelo Allende’s goal that restored their lead ended up with the entire squad and bench replicating the Namibia star’s iconic celebration in front of the Loftus Versfeld faithful.

Shalulile has scored 106 goals in 219 games for Sundowns across all competitions since joining the club from Highlands Park back in 2020.

“It shows we are there for one another, we support each other, even when someone is going through a difficult time, we always try and lift each other up because we need each other as well,” Modiba said.

“We know if Peter is not with us, he remains a very important member of the team, he’s scored so many goals for the team and yes it was a nice celebration from the guys.”

Sundowns now turn their attentions to MC Alger as they travel to Algeria for their second CAF Champions League Group C fixture.
