Kaizer Chiefs have to make this announcement

Kaizer Chiefs’ planned coaching changes for next season are starting to become clearer, with Manqoba Mngqithi emerging as a strong option.

Earlier reports from leading Amakhosi journalist Innocent Mkhize revealed that contact had already been made, with the Golden Arrows coach’s representatives entering early discussions with the Soweto giants.

There is now a fresh update on the situation, and it adds an important twist to the story.

KAIZER CHIEFS MOVE STILL ACTIVE

Mkhize has said: “MORNING SUNDAY FRESH LEADS. As OBABABELA ABASINDIYA reported indeed this story stands & it’s correct, in fact the only STUMBLING BLOCK for now it’s only a BOSS LADY she doesn’t like that move but MANQOBA is happy with [financial offer]… Negotiations ongoing behind the scenes lets see”

The update points to Golden Arrows chairlady Matho Madlala as the key figure currently holding things back, while Mngqithi himself is believed to be open to the move.

Despite this, discussions are still continuing behind the scenes. Mngqithi remains a strong candidate for Chiefs, given his experience and track record at the highest level.

MANQOBA MNGQITHI PROFILE FITS AMAKHOSI

His CV includes multiple league titles and CAF Champions League success during his time with Mamelodi Sundowns, where he served as both assistant and co-coach.

This season, he has again shown his quality at Golden Arrows. The team has been one of the most effective attacking sides in the league, currently the third-highest scorers with 28 goals in 22 matches, behind only Orlando Pirates and Sundowns.

He also proved his impact last season, guiding Arrows away from relegation trouble after arriving in March, eventually finishing 12th.

With eight matches left this season, Arrows are now sitting in eighth place, reflecting steady progress under his leadership.

He has also led strong cup runs, falling short only on penalties in both the Carling Knockout semi-finals and Nedbank Cup quarter-finals.

TALKS CONTINUE BEHIND THE SCENES

Mngqithi’s strength in recruitment has also stood out, with players like Junior Dion and Isaac Cissé playing key roles this season, alongside late additions such as Ayabulela Maxwele and Ayanda Jiyane.

He has also improved players already at the club, with Siyanda Ndlovu showing clear growth in output this season.

For Kaizer Chiefs, the profile fits, experienced, attack-minded, and proven in both results and development.

For now, the situation remains unresolved. Chiefs are interested, the coach is willing, but the final decision may come down to whether Golden Arrows are prepared to let him go.
